Why I Don't Have Customers Contacting Me From My Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or Any Other Social Media Site I Am Posting On?

Why I Don't Have Customers Contacting Me From My Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or Any Other Social Media Site I Am Posting On?

I get asked all the time, why people do not get sales calls or emails from the posts they put up on social media. Let's start out with what social media is supposed to actually do for you.

First: Social media builds lifelong, loyal relationships with you and your friend, connections, followers, and clients.

This puts you first of mind when your clients think they need your products and/or service. It may be tomorrow or 5 years from now, but if you do this right, you will be the first person they call or email when they need your products or services.

Second: Once that relationship grows, you need to present yourself as a thought leader, trusted advisor, and authority in your industry.

Who would not want to work with a person who is the authority in their industry?

Third: Did we mention building relationships?

You have heard it before. People buy from people they trust, like, and know. Additionally, really make sure your profile is completely filled out and that all your contact information is available for when they are ready to contact you. Also make sure you have a current picture of yourself!

Fourth: Take the time to build credibility.

This is not done by posting consistent ad after ad and promoting your business in all your posts. Present your followers with posts of great content; fun and clear videos; educate them; and if you can relate it back to your industry, that is an added plus. If you are posting a blog or video you took, take the time to boost it a few dollars. Do not boost shared content or content you found to post.

Five: When posting, verify the content is the truth.

If you're blogging, make sure your facts are correct. My point is be truthful to your followers. There is no better way to develop a great relationship than being honest with your posts. Additionally, stay away from the political posts, adult content, and other subjects that might be restricted on the platform you're posting on.

Sixth: Now that you have people liking your posts and leaving you messages, make sure you respond to the important ones.

Send out Happy Birthdays, congrats on anniversaries, and more. When they respond to you, respond back by opening up the conversation via asking a question or setting up a call, Zoom, or in-person meeting.

Seventh: Give recommendations on LinkedIn. Give reviews to people's fan or business pages on Facebook.

I recommend starting to do this once a month. It is easy to find people who have done something nice for you; a great employee of yours, someone at another company that had outstanding service, etc.

Eighth:  If you are posting to multiple platforms, do not post the same thing to each platform.

Each platform may have a different audience who are looking for a different kind of content. This way you are giving each platform and your followers on that platform more of a reason to follow you.

Ninth: Hashtags... Use them!

I could write a short blog just on hashtags. But for now, use them and know what platform uses more or fewer hashtags. For example, you may only want to use 2 to 5 hashtags on LinkedIn but may want to use 15 to 30 hashtags on Instagram. Relate your hashtags to the subject of the post.

Tenth: You do not need to post every day, especially if you're a small business.

You may want to start out once or twice a week. You can build to more days as you see your numbers of followers, impressions, reaches, and engagement grow. So watch your numbers and look at the reports each platform offers you.

Now that is a start to getting your followers' and clients' attention on social media. So now you might be ready to hear from your clients. As you might think, this is not done overnight. Social media takes time. It is not an ad on the radio or TV. So if you're not going to be patient, you might be looking at the wrong platform to be attracting your newest clients. Building a relationship and doing all the other things correctly takes time, but will be worth it. Social media will give you lifelong, loyal clients.
